Interior Tips For Creating More Space

Interior Tips For Creating More Space

Sometimes when you are renting, whether it be a Student Let or Professional Let – you can be stuck for space. Depending on your budget for how much you can afford to rent, sometimes you aren’t always able to rent the amount of space that you may desire, but with a little help from our team here at Prem-Lets, we can help to fix this! Carry on reading for our top tips on maximising the space you have and giving the illusion of a bigger bedroom…

Creating The Illusion Of More Space

Colour Palette

Now when you are renting, we always advise that you check with your landlord BEFORE you go making any major changes! Especially when it comes to paint or wallpaper. Some landlords can give you free reign over switching up the colour scheme, however some prefer if you didn’t. Most of the time, rented properties are kept to neutral tones, such as cream and white, which is great because it gives you a blank canvas to play with! And for more good news – light rooms are fantastic for giving the illusion of more space and large dimensions!

Top Tip: If an all white or magnolia canvas doesn’t float your boat, then not to worry – you can always add depth by accessorizing with rich details, such as gold, black, emerald green or navy blue furnishings with contrasting textures and fabrics.

Create Hidden Storage Points

Keeping your pad clean and tidy is also an easy and super simple way of creating more space in your bedroom. Try to avoid clutter by creating organised stations so that you know where all of your belongings are. Perhaps purchase a bookcase, where you can store, of course, your many books while you are studying at University, but it can also double up as handbag/shoe display storage and your little bits and bobs that otherwise can get lost easily or misplaced!

Top Tip: Opt for light coloured storage, to add to the freeing up of space. You can also invest in some handy wicker baskets – purchasing in sets of three usually gives off an intended aesthetic that looks like they are supposed to be there for interior purposes, as opposed to functional purposes.

Over-Accentuate

When it comes to accessorising your home, opting for oversized furnishings can help to give the illusion of more space in your home! If you love personalising your space by scent, then how about purchasing a large glass or mirrored coffee table tray that doubles for functionality and a decorative staple, and pop on your favourite diffuser, a vase of artificial flowers (less maintenance!) and any little trinkets you may have. You could always try adding a large mirror, whether you hang it using command strips or tilt it against your wall, the reflective method can give the illusion of more space too! Be extra when it comes to your cushions too! Rather than cluttering your bed with loads of smaller sized cushions, opt for a couple of large, oversized cushions to make your bed AND your bedroom look bigger.

Buy A Rug!

Rugs are often great for creating the illusion that there is more space in a room than there actually is. If your room is of a natural, light colour palette, then why not opt for a lighter shade rug? Natural colours such as beige, stone, grey and soft pinks/blues can be great additions!

Top Tip: Place your rug in the middle of the room to give the illusion of added space!

Choose An Interesting Lamp Shade

When focusing on your lighting options, if you focus on your main ceiling light, an interesting, unique lampshade can open up the space for you. It offers a little something special to the room, and makes it look like a lot of effort has been spent there. Opting for a light lampshade, that gives off as much light as possible, can add height to the ceiling, by drawing the eye to it.
