Things to Know Before Moving into a Professional House Share

Things to Know Before Moving into a Professional House Share

You’ve finally done all the hard work about secured your dream house share, but there are a few things you should know before you start moving in and setting up your new rental property. Preparing to move into shared accommodation is very different to moving into a place by yourself or your partner – here at Prem-Lets we are here to help with some tips that may make a big difference in the long run of your professional house share experience…

Plan your moving day properly

Planning your moving day can seem stressful, therefore you may feel like you want to put it off but it is important that you don’t! Make sure you try and finish packaging your belongings the night before you move so that you can have a good night’s sleep and be awake for the day that you move.

Top Tip!

Let your new housemates know when you will be moving into the property so they are aware that there will be moving vans arriving at the house.

Keep on top of your dishes and cleaning contributions

Dirty dishes can cause so many problems in any house share. It’s important to stay on top of your own dishes so that you don’t cause any upset in the household. Even if you’re running late one morning and don’t have time to wash up your bowl from breakfast, send them a text to let them know you will clean it up when you get home so they don’t think you’ve just left it there for someone else to do.

Top Tip!

You could always buy your own set of plates and cooking equipment and keep them out of sight until you’re ready to clean them so you aren’t creating mess for anyone else in the house.

Get on top of shared finance

Nobody likes a housemate who isn’t on top of the bills, it can cause so many problems within the house. There are many different apps or software tools that you could use to stay on top of your finances and help organise your money.

Top Tip!

Electing someone in the house to be in charge of paying the bills can work really well for some houses, especially if you have a really organised flatmate.

Make time for your flatmates

It is so important to make time for all your flatmates, to get to know them when you first move in but also to maintain the relationship you will have together as a house. You could organise a house mean night, where maybe one night a week or even a month you can all have a meal together – this is a great way to get to know your new flatmates.

Top Tip!

Even if you feel like your house will reject your offer, it is always nice to offer something rather than nothing!
