How To Keep Your House Organised

How To Keep Your House Organised
Tidying House

For students or young professionals leading a busy lifestyle, it’s easy for things to build up which makes the thought of cleaning your house, flat or apartment a hugely dreaded task. The start of the week you may be feeling on top of things but as the week goes on dirty laundry and dishes pile up, and the surfaces and floor are becoming more in need of a proper clean each day, Thankfully, there is a way to combat this. It could be as simple as not leaving stuff lying around, meaning there is less clutter around the house. It could be placing items in storage containers. Alternatively, it could setting up a cleaning routine to ensure that there is a tidying and cleaning system in place to help with house organisation. Whatever it may be, by adopting some house organisation rules to follow, for both you and those live with, you can create a system that works and benefits everyone whilst making a huge difference to your living space.

House Organisation

There’s something extremely rewarding about coming home to a clean and tidy house after a long day of work, university or whatever it is you do during the day. It can help you feel like you can completely relax, instead of thinking about the endless list of tasks you need to complete. Instead of leaving all of the cleaning and tidying until the weekend, you can evenly distribute what needs to be done throughout the week whenever you have free time it will give you more time to spend with family and friends, or to simply relax at the weekends!

What Are The Benefits Of Having An Organised House?

The benefits of having an organised house are endless. From bedrooms and wardrobes that are organised, to a mostly clean house with less stuff lying around or having a regular cleaning routine, there is so much that an organised house can offer you and those that you live with. The team at Prem-Lets has pulled together some of the main benefits of keeping a clean and tidy house:

Save Time

One of the greatest and most obvious benefits of having an organised house is that it saves time! Maintaining an organised house means you always know where everything is, cutting out any time spent looking for items as you rush out the door. Allocating 15 minutes a day to have a morning or nightly clean up will help you keep on top of things.

Better Chance Of A Mostly Clean House

More often than not, a messy house is a dirty house and makes tasks such as deep cleaning much more difficult due to the clutter and lack of space to work with. By having your entire house organised and free of clutter, you will have much easier access to surfaces and parts of the house that will need regular cleaning, such as the kitchen or dining room table. This will also allow you to find cleaning products and other necessities more easily.

Organise Your Mind

You know what they say… tidy house, tidy mind! When we tidy up our physical spaces, it also helps to declutter our brain. By organising our house it allows us to organise our thoughts without being distracted by any clutter or mess around us.

Stress Relief

When we’re constantly surrounded by mess it can be hard to concentrate on other tasks or work you may have to do that day. You want to ensure that your house is a relaxing place to return home to at the end of a busy day. Walking through the door knowing that there are dirty dishes stacked up and that need to be cleaned before you can eat your dinner is enough to put a dampener on anyone’s mood! Having an organised house will also mean that you have more free time to do whatever it is that can help relieve your stress that you may have built up at work or university.

Sleep Better

Going to bed knowing you have a tidy and organised home means you can rest well knowing that you’re not waking up to chaos in the morning. Having a good night’s sleep will also help you to be more motivated the next day, instead of feeling groggy and drained.

Increase ‘Me Time’

By spreading out the cleaning and tidying throughout the week instead of leaving it until the weekend it means you have more time to relax or see friends and family. Not having to worry about having to factor in a huge amount of time to clean will give you a lot more freedom to spend your time as you wish.

Tips To Keep Your House Organised:

It can be hard to know where to start when it comes to figuring out how to keep your house organised. So we’ve pulled together seven great tips on how to keep your house organised:

Don’t Let Anything Build Up

If you allow your rubbish, laundry or dirty dishes to build up you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed when you come to do it at the weekend. Get into the habit of taking bins out daily, or even more regularly depending on how full they get. Keep on top of your laundry, so you aren’t left with an endless pile of dirty clothes when it gets to the weekend – if you have a full load of washing, get up and do it first thing in the morning. Don’t let dirty dishes build up on the side, get in the habit of regularly loading and unloading the dishwasher on a regular basis and putting any dirty cups on plates straight into the dishwasher, or cleaning them there and then, instead of letting them accumulate on the side.

Have Systems In Place

Figuring out systems that work for you and those that you live with will help you, as a house, keep on top of your cleaning and organisation. You may pick a designated day to vacuum each week, or make Monday a ‘laundry day’, and this routine will help to ensure all the tasks are ticked off each week. You could delegate different household tasks or work on a ‘rota’ basis and share the tasks equally amongst yourselves. Alternatively, you could allocate tasks based on skillset, preferences or circumstances. For example, one person could be in char be responsible for taking the bins out, whereas another person could be in charge of hoovering and cleaning. Whatever system you work out, it’s important that you work together to maintain a clean and tidy house.

Create To Do Lists

Whenever you’re wanting to carry out jobs around the house write yourself a to do list with all the tasks that need doing, whether it be deep cleaning the living room, sorting out the laundry or tackling a messy kitchen. A To Do List allows you to set out what it is you plan to do which you can then tick off accordingly once each respective task is done. This can be done as informally on a piece of paper or on a ‘notes’ app on a smartphone, whichever way suits you! To Do Lists can be tailored to individuals with their indvidual tasks or they could be placed on a board in a communal room for everyone to see with tasks then allocated according to the list.

Maintain Consistency

Consistency is key! When it comes to house organisation you need to continue to practice and carry out the cleaning tasks, it’s not just a one off occasion. By adopting good habits around the house it can help to cut down on the amount of time spent cleaning and tidying. For example making your bed first thing every morning, or unloading the dishwasher in the morning, these will also help give you a sense of accomplishment before you’ve even left the house.

By doing these small tasks as you go it prevents them from building up into bigger and more time consuming ones. Get into the habit of putting everything away after use – clean up all the dishes straight after dinner instead of waiting until the morning, as this is when things can start to build up! By being consistent with all your cleaning habits it will help prevent small messes growing into big ones.

Be Disciplined

Maintaining a clean and tidy house requires a certain level of discipline. It’s all well and good one week deciding to have a big clean and tidy, but this will need to be kept up week in and week out if you want to keep things organised and create a living space that everyone is comfortable with. If everyone is responsible for keeping their own rooms clean and tidy, you’ll need to make a joint effort to keep the communal areas, such as the kitchen, lounge and bathrooms clean. Once your stuff is organised the way you like it, you need to maintain it. Even on days when you’re in a hurry, or just really don’t feel up to it you need to remember how good it feels to have a clean house.

Be Considerate Of Others

When renting a property you’ll need to be considerate of the other tenants. Whether you’re renting with friends, or people that you’ve just met, there will need to be a shared level of respect and responsibility for keeping your property spick and span. For students and young professionals who are out of the house most of the day to work or at university, you may dread the thought of coming back home and having to clean and tidy. Remember, everyone has their part to play to help keep your house a clean and tidy place to live.
